Latvia reported lack of guarantees for financing public media

At the moment, Latvia has no political guarantees for financing public media after their complete departure from the advertising market in 2021. About this, according to the portal Lsm. lv, it turned out at a meeting of the sub-commission of the Sejm (parliament) on media policy. Journalists note that in order to compensate for the loss of income and implement plans to produce new content, Latvian public media requires 8.34 million euros. Since public media currently does not conclude new advertising contracts, and do not renew old ones, the lack of a decision to finance them in November will have disastrous consequences for public media, Ivar Abolins, chairman of the Council on Electronic Media (NEPLP), told members of the subcommission.
