More than 20 people died as a result of a terrorist attack on the Elite Hotel in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia. This was reported on August 16 by the publication Somali Guardian. A terrorist attack on a hotel located in the area of the popular Lidov beach occurred on the afternoon of August 16. Militants of the radical Al-Shabab group (an organization whose activities are banned in the Russian Federation) detonated a car filled with explosives in the hotel, after which they began to storm the building and took hostages. The siege of the hotel by government forces lasted about four hours. As a result of the operation, the militants were eliminated, but more than 20 people were killed in the explosion and subsequent terrorist attack, another 35 were injured. According to unconfirmed reports, among the dead may be high-ranking officials, including employees of the Ministry of Defense and the Ministry of Information of Somalia. It is noted that the private hotel Elite was one of the most guarded sites in Mogadishu. He belongs to a member of parliament and was popular among celebrities and politicians in Somalia.
