Russian national tennis team could win the Davis Cup - President of the FTR


Russian national team on tennis, taking into account good shape of the Russian athletes in the Open championship of the USA (US Open), could fight this year for the Davis Cup if it wasn't cancelled. This opinion was expressed on September 6 by the President of the Russian Tennis Federation (FTR) Shamil Tarpishchev. At the same time, earlier Daniil Medvedev in the third round match of the US Open in three sets beat the American Jeffrey Wolf, Andrei Rublev also defeated the Italian Salvatore Caruso in three sets and only Karen Khachanov lost to the Australian Alex de Minaur in five sets. I can say that really from this three Khachanov was in a slightly worse situation, having lost shape during a long stay in Moscow during the pandemic, TASS quoted the president of the FTR. Tarpishchev also noted that it is still difficult for Khachanov to go through a tournament of this level and that the tennis player missed a lot in the quality of the game, although he tried. And it is very disappointing that this year the Davis Cup was canceled given the form of our leaders, there were real chances of victory, he said. In addition, the president of the FTR emphasized that the Russian team also has Andrei Kuznetsov, who, according to Tarpishchev, despite health problems, can beat anyone in a separate match - both in pairs and alone. He has a clean technique, stability and versatility. Recall that the final stage of the Davis Cup was supposed to be held in Madrid from November 23 to 29, but it was canceled due to the pandemic of coronavirus infection.
